My most memorable Christmas took place 22 years ago, when I was five. My mother took my sister and me on a drive to look at Christmas lights very late on Christmas Eve in our neighborhood. My father said he was sick and was going to sleep. Before we left, we placed cookies and milk out for Santa if he came while we were gone. We drove around in the old station wagon and listened to reindeer reports on the radio.

After our 45 minutes’ drive, we returned home to discover the cookies had been eaten and the milk consumed. Underneath the tree, were many presents and a note from Santa, telling us to have a Merry Christmas and he was sorry he didn’t see us. My sister and I ran into our father’s room to tell him what had happened and he acted incredibly surprised. To this day, I wonder if he had any crumbs around his mouth, or if he wore a "milk" moustache!

もっとも思い出深いクリスマスは、２２年前の私が５歳の時の出来事です。 母は 姉と私を、クリスマスイブの夜遅くに 近所のクリスマスの飾り付けを見にドライブに連れ出しました。 父は 気分が良くないので、寝ると言っていました。 家を出る前、外出中にサンタさんが来たらと クッキーとミルクを出しておきました。 古いステーションワゴンに乗ってドライブし、ラジオでトナカイのお知らせを聞きました。

４５分間 ドライブした後、家に帰ると クッキーとミルクがなくなっていました。 ツリーの下には 沢山のプレゼントと「メリークリスマス。 君たちに会えなくて残念だった。」と書かれたサンタさんからのメモが置いてありました。 姉と私は 今起こった事を告げに父の部屋に走って行きました。 すると父は とても驚いた様子でした。 今日まで、彼は口の周りに クッキーのくずがついていたのかな、それともミルクの口髭をつけていたのかと思っています。
