ダン先生が当校に勤務し始めて、早いものでもう１年が過ぎようとしています。 こちらでの生活を楽しんでいたので、もっと 居たいという希望はあるのですが、残念ながら 一身上の都合で ６月下旬に帰国しなくてはいけなくなりました。 この１年の生活を振り返っての ダン先生の津山での思い出を紹介します。

When I was a kid, a year seemed like a very long time. Now, a year seems to pass so quickly. I’ve really enjoyed my time here with everyone and I count myself lucky to have lived in Tsuyama. There are so many good things to say and I don’t want to leave anyone out, but long goodbyes are difficult.
Tsuyama has been a great place to live and I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. When I first heard about Kakuzan Park, I was so excited. We don’t have anything like it in the US as far as I know. I’ve wanted to live in a place like Tsuyama for years, but I’m afraid I have some matters to deal with back home and it may take a while. I hope to visit Tsuyama again someday, but I don’t know when that will be.
I’ve had a lot of little adventures in town. My first taste of natto (I didn’t like it) and my first time riding a train. There were bigger adventures too: The Gongo Festival and Hanami Matsuri in Kakuzan Park were both very exciting. I got to study Iaido at Gokurakuji and Aikido at Mimasaka University too.
Thanks to some of my students, I’ve been able to try a lot of traditional Japanese foods. Oden was probably my favorite. I plan on introducing my friends to some of the hot pot dishes. When I get home, I expect to experience some reverse culture shock since I feel so comfortable in Tsuyama now.
I hope you had as much fun in class as I did teaching. More importantly, I hope you learned something. Don’t forget you need to practice daily! I’m going to miss all of you when I leave, but I hope some of you will try to keep in touch. The new teacher is also named Daniel and from Ohio. I hope you don’t get us confused!

子どもの時、一年はとても長く感じられました。 今 一年は早く過ぎるように思われます。 皆さんと 過ごせた時間はとても楽しく、津山に住むことができて本当に運が良かったと考えています。 良い思い出がたくさんあり、皆さんのことを忘れたくはありません。 別れを告げるのはとても難しいものです。
津山は、住むのにとても良い場所で、私は 本当にこちらの環境を楽しみました。 最初に鶴山公園のことを聞いたときは、アメリカにはそのような場所がないので、わくわくしました。 ずっと津山のような場所に住みたいと思っていたのです。 でも、帰省して片づけておくべきことがあり、それにはしばらく時間を要するのです。 いつになるかは分かりませんが、いつの日かまた津山を訪れたいと思っています。
津山を 探検してまわったり、初めて納豆を食べたり（好きにはなれませんでしたが）、また電車にも乗りました。 もっと大きな冒険もしました。 ごんご祭りや 鶴山公園でのお花見はとても面白く、極楽寺で居合道、美作大学でも合気道を学びました。
生徒さんのお蔭で、沢山の伝統的な日本料理を試すことができました。 おでんがおそらく私の一番好きなものです。 鍋料理を友人に教えてあげるつもりです。 津山の生活をとても快適に感じているので、帰省したら、反対にカルチャーショックを経験することでしょう。
皆さんも 私が楽しんで教えさせていただいたのと同じように、授業を楽しんで下さったことを願っています。 毎日 練習することを忘れないでください。 ここを去ったら、皆さんのことが本当に懐かしく思い出されることでしょう。 是非 連絡を取って下さることを願っています。 新しい先生も 同じくオハイオ州からのダニエルですので、私たち2人を間違えないでくださいね。
